| PUMA® Serves Up Mongolian Shoe BBQ 2nd Course
February 2007
Custom Shoe Retail Program Adds New Silhouette and Expands to Online
Cape Town, South Africa, February, 2007 - After the successful
international introduction of the Mongolian Shoe BBQ customization
concept in 2005, PUMA® will expand the program this summer introducing
a new trainer, the RS100, and online capabilities. Retaining the
inspiration of the original concept, Mongolian Shoe BBQ gives consumers
a hands-on, tactile shoe-making experience, now also available in
South Africa.
Using the style of Mongolian Barbeque cuisine as the recipe for the program, customers can design their own shoe from an assortment of pre-cut fabrics. Unique shoes are created according to taste. This season the much loved, RS100 heritage sneaker lends added spice to the creative process. 13 components and new detailing can be customized ranging from a wide variety of materials and fabrics to cook up a one of a kind pair of Mongolian Shoe BBQ sneakers.
At PUMA retail, customers can assemble their shoe at a specially designed fixture in keeping with the Mongolian BBQ style of service. A refrigerator display case houses fully cooked display examples for inspiration and sizing. The workspace incorporates the pattern of the shoe to use as a guide along with recipe instructions for the creative process. Chefs can then select the various pattern pieces for their sneaker from the component buffet and scan them into a computer. A rendering of the finished concoction can be previewed at the workstation. Once the design process is completed, customers will pay for their creation and leave the rest to PUMA. The finished product will be shipped to the store in 5-6 weeks.
Mongolian Shoe BBQ retails for R1300 and is available in size UK
3 - UK 12. The program launches at the PUMA store, Canal Walk, Cape
Town on December 15. For more information please visit www.puma.com.
The new online program uses the same cooking experience. A virtual Mongolian
BBQ restaurant has been created which takes users through the sneaker
buffet and cooks up the finished product in a 3D rendering. The
online restaurant boutique opens for business this summer to select
markets.
