| BERGSIG CHARDONNAY WINS GOLD IN FRANCE
February 2007
BERGSIG Estate in the Breedekloof is celebrating being awarded a gold medal at the prestigious Chardonnay du Monde 2007 in France.
The Bergsig Chardonnay 2005 was one of about 950 Chardonnays from across the globe, including France, Spain, the USA, Australia, New Zealand and Italy, which entered the competition - only 66 were awarded gold medals.
The success of the Bergsig Chardonnay 2005 follows that of its predecessor as the Bergsig Chardonnay 2004 was one of only four Chardonnays to be awarded a Double Gold at Veritas 2005.
The wine was also named the top Chardonnay in the Breedekloof District and Worcester District category of the inaugural SA Terroir Wine Awards held in 2006.
De Wet Lategan is descended from Willem Lategan, who in 1843 planted the first vines in Breede River Valley where the majestic Drakenstein and Hex River mountains meet. Today, more than six generations later, the Lategan family continues to produce top quality wines at Bergsig Estate.
The Breedekloof Wine and Tourism information centre in Rawsonville
offers free winetasting of a selection of the region's wines including
those of Bergsig Estate, as well as maps and brochures of the area.
