WINE RELEASES FROM TOKARA
August 2007
The award winning TOKARA winery has released its wines for 2007
which include the debut Sauvignon blanc from the winery's Highlands
property in the Elgin district.
The TOKARA Elgin Sauvignon blanc 2006 has been released simultaneously
with the 2007, giving wine lovers the opportunity to compare the
qualities of the two vintages. The 2006 was not released last year
because of the limited quantities produced from the young vines
planted at Highlands in Spring 2003. TOKARA therefore decided to
release the 2006 simultaneously with the larger volume 2007.
The
TOKARA White 2006 (barrel fermented blend of Sauvignon blanc and
Semillon), the TOKARA Walker Bay Sauvignon blanc 2007 (tank fermented)
and the TOKARA Stellenbosch Chardonnay 2006 (barrel fermented) were
launched alongside the TOKARA Elgin Sauvignon blanc at TOKARA's
annual Wine Made Art event which took place at the SA National Gallery
in Cape Town.
The winery, on the R310 outside Stellenbosch, is a picture perfect
destination which offers visitors a unique combination of award-winning
wines, brandy and olive oils, a gallery of fine art and a restaurant
featuring one of South Africa's leading chefs.
TOKARA vineyards are on the southern slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain
at the Stellenbosch property. TOKARA also owns two other farms,
Highlands in the Elgin district and Siberia in the Hemel-en-Aarde
Valley near Hermanus, which enables the production of wines expressing
the distinct characteristics of these two prime wine producing regions.
The
works produced for the Wine Made Art event are on display at TOKARA
until the end of December.
TOKARA Winery is open for tasting between 9am and 5pm weekdays
and from 10am to 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays. For more details
