TOKARA OLIVE OIL NOW IN STYLISH 5L CAN
March 2009

TOKARA has released its award winning olive oils in stylish 5 litre tins, perfect for display in kitchens and on dining tables.

Designed to last, the containers can be re-filled and the price ex-cellar is R499 for a 5 litre tin of a 2008 vintage Mission, Frantoio, Leccino, or multi-varietal blended olive oil.

The olive oils are produced at the Olive Shed at TOKARA, which is a modern boutique-style production plant nestled among olive groves and vineyards on the crest of the Helshoogte Pass, 5km outside Stellenbosch.

It is the only South African producer of single varietal olive oils, namely Mission, Frantoio and Leccino, as well as a multi-varietal blend. These olive oils are sold under The Olive Shed at TOKARA brand. The jewel in the crown is a TOKARA Premium olive oil - also a unique blend.

By bottling individual varietals, TOKARA provides consumers with the opportunity to enjoy the unique characteristics of each with regard to flavour, fruitiness and intensity.

The intensely flavoured Frantoio varietal has a robust fruitiness and full herbaceous character, suited to vegetable soups, grilled and baked vegetables and red meats.

The medium flavoured Leccino varietal has subtle fruit and nut tones with a gentle herbaceous character, ideal for grilled white meats, salads, pasta and vegetables.

The mild flavoured Mission varietal has a finely balanced grassy, herbaceous character. This delicate oil is suited to steamed or broiled fish, mayonnaise, pasta, salads and savoury tarts.

The medium flavoured multi-varietal blend has a full fruit character rounded with delicate herbaceous and spicy flavours, expressing the best characteristics of Mission, Frantoio and Leccino. It is suited to general use in stir-fry, deep-fry, meats, sautés, pasta sauces and salads.

The health benefits of olive oil combined with the changing tastes of consumers have resulted in an explosion in demand for quality products. TOKARA's range of olive oils deliver on flavour and more than meet the requirements of health conscious consumers - the Heart Foundation has certified TOKARA's extra virgin olive oils, confirming their health benefits.

To qualify as extra virgin, olive oils must not exceed the limit of .8% free fatty acids. TOKARA olive oils are well below that threshold at .3% - a healthy indicator of the quality of its cold-extraction production process.

The Olive Shed at TOKARA has also passed the SAFSIS audit for food safety and personal hygiene, ensuring the olive oils are bottled and ready for consumption under the best possible conditions.

Visitors can enjoy free tastings of the olive oils at the TOKARA winery between 9am and 5pm weekdays and between 10am and 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays. For more details visit www.tokara.com, email or phone (021) 808 5900.
