NEW COMER ORANGERIE WHISKY A PALATABLE DELIGHT
July 2009
Taste buds are in for an adventure with the arrival of a whisky infused with the zest of fresh oranges and the aromatics of Oriental spices.
Orangerie is the latest offering from the Compass Box whisky company and is set to hit South African shelves in October.
Served slightly chilled over ice cubes, Orangerie fascinates the palate with the combination of smooth, sweet Scotch whiskies and the aromas of lively and vibrant oranges and Christmas cake spices - a wonderful match for decadent dark chocolate!
Orangerie is a smooth blend of Highland single malt and single grain whiskies from Fife, gently infused with the hand- zested peel of fresh Navalino oranges, Indonesian cassia bark, Sri Lankan cloves and vanilla extracts.
Inspired by two landmark British orangeries built in London in the 18th century, Orangerie is the product of maverick 40-something whisky maker John Glaser of the Compass Box Whisky Company.
Glaser developed a passion for whisky while working for one of the world's leading producers. With the birth of Compass Box he realised a dream of starting his own company, and began blending whiskies in his kitchen.
"To me, as a whisky maker, it has always seemed natural to complement the flavour palate of certain whiskies with the vibrancy of orange zest and the aromatics of Oriental spices," says Glaser.
Compass Box whiskies are imported into South Africa by Cape Town-based Liquidity and are available countrywide.
Liquidity, purveyors of premium and super-premium wines and spirits, represent Taittinger Champagne, Patrón Tequila, De Toren Private Cellar and Jean Daneel wines, Buffalo Trace American whiskies, Compass Box Scotch whiskies, Collective São Gabriel luxury beers and Cachaça Germana.
