SANDCASTLES BUILD FUTURE FOR HOUT BAY CHILDREN
February 2010
The Hout Bay Sandcastle Competition attracted a record attendance on Saturday February 13 with 134 sandcastles built during the course of the morning. The annual event raised R45 000 to improve facilities at several schools in the local community.
Over 800 adults and children, and thousands of spectators - the largest turn-out in the history of the Sandcastle Competition - headed for the beach armed with buckets and spades to build fairy castles, baboons, mermaids, cars, boats, starfish and replicas of Table Mountain.
The funds raised will be spent on improving facilities and sponsoring underprivileged children at Valley Pre-Primary school, Sentinel Primary School in the Hout Bay Harbour community and Little Lamb Crèche in Imizamo Yethu township.
