PYRAT RUM, A FIRST FOR SOUTH AFRICA
May 2010
Liquidity, the South African distributors of Patron ultra-premium tequilas, has unveiled Pyrat XO Reserve, one of the world's finest sipping rums from the Patron Spirits Company.
Ultra-premium sipping rum is one of the fastest growing spirits categories globally and is often compared to fine Cognac or long-aged whisky. Amber-coloured Pyrat XO Reserve is smooth and gentle on the palate and sets the benchmark in South Africa.
Pyrat XO Reserve, which takes its name from the spelling of the old English word for pirate, is hand-bottled in Anguila at the heart of the Caribbean. It is a blend of Carribean "pot still" rums that have been barrel aged for up to 15 years.
The blended rum is then further aged in a combination of French Limousin oak barrels and specially toasted American sweet oak barrels to produce delectable sipping rum with flavours of vanilla, caramel, honey and cinnamon.
It is delicious served neat; in a large wine glass with a small amount of ice and a wedge of lime; with your favourite cola or juice; or mixed in a super premium cocktail.
The Pyrat XO bottle (available in 750ml and 375ml) is reminiscent of rum bottles traded by pirates and ship captains of the 1800s. The bottles are individually numbered, hand-crafted and decorated with a Hoti (pronounced Ho-Tie). The Hoti represents the Zen patron saint and protector of fortune tellers and bartenders.
Pyrat XO Reserve is available from boutique liquor stores, upmarket restaurants and bars. It retails for about R350.
Liquidity, purveyors of premium and super-premium wines and spirits, represent Taittinger Champagne, Patrón Tequila, De Toren Private Cellar and Jean Daneel wines, Buffalo Trace American whiskies, Compass Box Scotch whiskies, Germana Cachaça and Wilderer Grappa.
